The school offers English Home Language (HL) as well as English First Additional Language (FAL), therefore each of the two HODs is responsible for the management and teaching of each of these components.
All the educators are specialists in the subject as well as experienced in teaching their learning areas. Ms Singh has been an examiner in the National Senior Certificate Examination (NSC) for English Home Language in the Western Cape Education Department for the past twelve years and Ms Africa are sub-examiners. All two educators have acquired computer application skills, either self-taught or through attending short courses run by Khanya and the education department, which is essential at CAMST since educators here are expected to incorporate ICT in their teaching. They also have experience in resource development and teacher training and have presented at workshops for other English educators in the province, e. g. English Language Festival and Xenex Spark Project. The educators in the department are committed and often have intervention classes after school and on weekends to ensure that the school’s vision and mission are realized. They also strive to expose learners to Olympiads, public-speaking competitions, writing competitions and the Rotary Club’s Toastmaster’s course in order to broaden their horizons and develop their language skills. As HOD Ms Singh has also acquired management skills in various portfolios at the school. Both have been educator representatives on the SGB. Ms Singh is shared coordinator of the School Assessment Team and a member of the Staff Development Team. |
