learning together

Since 1997 small groups of ten to twelve senior students from each partner school share ideas and information using a dedicated website http://global-classroom.org/ in preparation for an annual Conference hosted on a rotating basis by one of the partner schools. Families of students and staff provide home stay opportunities and a programme enabling sharing of work prepared in advance along with the sight seeing arranged by the host school.Global Classroom Partnership South Africa has been operational since 1996. The project includes high schools from seven countries and covering four continents, viz. South Africa, Shetland Islands, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Czech Republic and the USA.

The objectives are:

• To plan and organize mutual exchange programmes between SA schools and schools in other countries.

• To engage in life-long learning across cultural and racial barriers so that the intellectual and emotional growth of our youth becomes a reality.

The Cape Academy has been involved in the project since 2005 and has sent a delegation of educators and learners to The GCP conferences since then:

• 2005: Conference held in Cape Town at the Academy and co-hosted by the Academy and South Peninsula High School. Theme: “Sharing Pasts and Shaping Futures”;
• 2006: Conference held in Nara, Japan. Theme: “Peace”;
• 2007: Conference held in Diepholtz, Germany. Theme: “Responsibility”;
• 2008: Conference held in Zlin, Czech Republic. Theme: “Culture”
