High Performance experience by Aviation School’s Students on 18th May 2011
Three students of the Cape Academy – Alyd Air Aviation School (CA-AAAS) were invited to experience a flight in a high performance Cessna Citation Business Jet.
Mr. Wimpie Graham from GrahamTech Systems (Water purification and De-salination experts) is the pilot and owner of this magnificent aircraft. The purpose of the flight was for him to practice his instrument flying, which included steep turns, stalls and Instrument Landing System (ILS) approaches without visual reference outside the cockpit. In laymen’s terms that means the pilot could not see out of the cockpit windows while performing the various exercises, and had to rely solely on his instrument.
During the steep turns the students experienced what it feels like to experience gravity forces of some 2G i.e. twice their own body weight. They also felt what happens if an aeroplane goes into a “stall” and saw what the pilot had to do to rectify the situation. These are vital exercises for any pilot and this type of training paves the way for safer aviation. It is reassuring to know that our students at the CA-AAAS will be in well trained and in good hands when they start their practical flying, and that they will be taught to execute their Flights Safely as a priority.
